Linden won three Group 4 titles under coach Phil Colicchio since 2000 and also the '01 and 07 Union County Tournaments.

But it's arguable that the 2006 Star-Ledger Coach of the Year is doing his finest work right now.

Linden (9-7) stunned The Star-Ledger Top 20's No. 7 team, Plainfield, 70-60, last Thursday and No. 13 Newark Shabazz, 52-45, two days prior with a lineup that barely resembles its early-season outfit, let alone the team last season that featured All-State guard Desmond Wade.

David Bruce, a 6-9 senior headed to St. Joseph's in Philadelphia, has not played since Jan. 17 due to academic issues and junior guard Elijah Hodge missed the Shabazz game for similar reasons. Yet, Linden continues to win behind tough-minded senior forward Romell Bateman and a defense that simply outworks its opponent.

Senior forward Tevin Calhoun scored a career-high 29 points against Plainfield and sophomore guard Dan Thompson hit for a career-best 20 against Shabazz.
